NVF at the Consultation on the Future of Micro-Credentials

On June 24, 2025, representatives of the National Training Fund (NVF) took part in the first consultation workshop of the project Towards a Harmonised System of Micro-Credentials in the Czech Republic, jointly implemented by the OECD and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) (2024–2026).

The event, hosted at the Ministry, brought together stakeholders from MŠMT, NPI, Charles University, Czech Technical University in Prague, SPDČR, PII, NVF, and the Association of Higher Vocational Schools.

The aim of the workshop was to initiate a stakeholder debate on the design of a future micro-credentials system in the Czech Republic. Discussions focused on the definition of micro-credentials and their role in the education system, the possibility of building on existing tools (such as the National Qualifications Framework or skills databases like ESCO), as well as issues of funding and quality assurance.

Various perspectives were presented – ranging from building on the existing national qualifications framework, through calls for greater flexibility and the involvement of major private providers, to proposals for creating new funding models independent of the state. Participants agreed that the key challenge will be to strike the right balance between ensuring quality and maintaining flexibility, so that micro-credentials bring real value to learners, employers, and education providers alike.

This workshop marked the beginning of a series of meetings aimed at gradually shaping the principles of a harmonised system of micro-credentials covering all levels of education in the Czech Republic.
